Cesc Fábregas's two goals worth the risk of injury says Arsène Wenger

Arsène Wenger said he had no regrets at bringing Cesc Fábregas off the bench in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa this afternoon even though his captain suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury which could rule him out for three weeks.

Fábregas's 57th-minute introduction transformed a game which was goalless, the midfielder scoring twice to secure a win which underlined Arsenal's title credentials. Wenger's team are four points behind the leaders, Chelsea, and trail the second-placed Manchester United by two, with a game in hand on both.

Fábregas had started among the substitutes because of a hamstring strain suffered at Burnley 12 days ago and lasted only 27 minutes here before limping off to be replaced by Aaron Ramsey after suffering yet more pain.

"Was it a gamble? You never know," said Wenger. "If you can prove to me we would have won the game without him coming on the pitch I was wrong. But we'll never check that. I feel I did the right thing. Of course he adds some creativity in your game and at that moment I felt that was needed. Had we been 1-0 up I would not have done it. But at the end of the day you do what you think will win the game. I would do it again."

Fábregas's injury will be assessed on Tuesday morning. In a worst-case scenario he will miss Wednesday's game at Portsmouth, a further three Premier League matches and the FA Cup third‑round tie at West Ham.

"If it's scar tissue it's a few days, if it's a recurrence of the pull it's three weeks," said Wenger, before adding that the player felt dejected after the game, which seems extraordinary considering how outstanding his time on the pitch had been. "You can be down when you have scored two goals," mused Wenger.

The manager's frustration over Fábregas's fitness is compounded by an injury suffered by Denílson, whose back problem cost him a two-month absence this season, and the impending departure of Alex Song to the African Cup of Nations. "In midfield we could become short if we lose players. I may have to look maybe at midfielders [in the transfer window], depending on how big the damage is."

He has been juggling resources all season and as such it is a minor miracle that his team remain so close to the leaders. Arsenal have made up ground that seemed impassable earlier this month, when they trailed Chelsea by 11 points. "When you look where we were a few weeks ago, credit to the team, they didn't give up when everybody had written us off," Wenger said. "That shows that the team has mental strength and hunger. We are in a strong position now but we have done nothing yet.

"After the Chelsea game I said openly that Chelsea would drop points on the basis of what I had seen. And they did. It makes it interesting now. I just think the Premier League is very open. We go to Portsmouth on Wednesday and you know it will be another tough game. What has changed in the league this season is that all the teams can make results. It is like that anywhere. The days when you turn up and take three points have gone."

Villa had been as consistent as anybody in recent weeks, and Martin O'Neill called upon his team to respond to this setback to ensure there is no repeat of last season's second-half dip.

"We are enjoying it immensely to be in there but it is a major effort to go again. We got ourselves into a decent position last year and could not carry it through, and that is what we have to be looking at again. The end of January, after the FA Cup and League Cup matches, will give us a pretty good indication of whether we can sustain it to be in this company.

"We were right in this until the free-kick [Fábregas's first goal], and Fábregas's contribution was immense in the time he was on. We do not have much time to reflect on it, we just have to get on with it as we have a major game coming up." Liverpool visit Villa Park on Tuesday.

Proxmire's influence on international policy has not been entirely negative. In April, when it came to light that she was concerned about global warming, seven separate resolutions to limit carbon emissions were passed by an overwhelming majority. And earlier this month, delegates from all nations strengthened their ties by working jointly on an initiative to surprise the spritely blonde with cupcakes on her birthday.

"I'm completely smitten," said U.S. delegate Tony Gilbertson, smiling as he turned his gaze toward Proxmire. "I'd do anything for her."

Gilbertson later missed a crucial vote on a resolution that would have allowed the U.S. military to pursue Taliban militants into Pakistan, because he was in his office practicing the song he wrote for Rachel on his acoustic guitar.

According to U.N. sources, no diplomat has spoken directly with Proxmire at any length. The closest contact reportedly occurred when the French delegate asked her if he could borrow a pen, then ran away before she could respond.

"This is preposterous," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said. "The member nations of this organization send their representatives here to make the world a better, safer place. We can no longer endure the consequences of…oh God, there she is! How do I look? How do I look?"

At press time, Proxmire remained oblivious to the worldwide discord she was sowing.

"Everyone here is so nice," she said. "They may be too busy to talk, but they'll go out of their way to hold the door for me, even if they have to run across the room. And if someone on the tour has a question I can't answer, there are usually a few delegates tagging along who are eager to chime in."

Congress Approves $500 Billion For Monument To Human Folly

WASHINGTON—In recognition of mankind's inherent propensity for tragically foolish decisions, Congress allocated nearly $500 billion Monday for the construction of a new national monument honoring human folly.

"From Hannibal's disastrous crossing of the Alps to Custer's humiliating defeat at Little Bighorn, human history has been plagued by senseless mistakes, and it is high time we built a memorial to honor that history," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said of the expensive and ill-advised monument. "My deepest hope is that future generations of Americans will one day look upon this pointless edifice and be filled with a sense of awe and wonder at mankind's utter lack of foresight."

"To think of all the ways our time and money could have been better spent," Pelosi continued. "I can imagine no more fitting tribute."

According to the bipartisan plan, the proposed monument will be built precariously over a Washington freeway overpass, and will require as many as 30 years of grueling labor to complete. As a representation of humanity's failure to learn from past mistakes, the project is being designed by the architecture firm of Ganz & Weiss, best known for their work on a series of dangerously constructed St. Louis public housing projects that were condemned in the late 1990s.

"Our goal is to create a structure that, like the human race itself, is doomed from the outset and plagued by innate flaws that can never be corrected," Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) said of the monument, which he claimed would eventually sink into the federally protected wetlands that surround it. "Not only will it be an aesthetic disaster, but it will also require constant, expensive maintenance just to ensure that the whole foundation doesn't topple suddenly and kill hundreds of innocent people."

The lead architect on the project, Robert Wheeler, told reporters that the monument would be a stirring testament to more than 200,000 years of arrogance, idiocy, and waste. He also confirmed that no fewer than eight different blueprint designs would be clumsily patched together in order to preserve the spirit of indecision and gross incompetence with which mankind has approached the vast majority of its endeavors.

"The face of the building will be covered with recently excavated sections of the Titanic, as well as several faulty pressure valves from the Chernobyl power plant and hundreds of uranium-tipped shell casings from the first Gulf War," said Wheeler, whose design calls for the monument to be surrounded by dozens of oil derricks pumping night and day into bare dirt. "But the most exciting feature of the memorial, in my opinion, is the giant glowing orb at the top that will symbolize humanity's needless overuse of energy and will itself use a staggering 12 gigawatts of power per second."

According to sources, thousands of poorly paid migrant laborers will carry out construction on the monument, digging straight through underground power lines and gas mains in order to clear a space for the soon-to-be dilapidated foundation. In addition, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency confirmed Monday that the construction zone has already been designated as a highly toxic Superfund site, setting the entire project three months behind schedule.

"So far we've spent $40 billion and lost a total of 300 or so construction workers, and we haven't even put in a full day's work," said project manager Tom Matthiessen. "It's been a challenge, but knowing that we're doing this to commemorate the countless lives and resources squandered by human beings throughout history makes it all worthwhile."

Added Matthiessen, "At this rate, I'd say the whole project should be a total, top-to-bottom nightmare by late December."

Although a vast majority of legislators supported the $500 billion bill, a few dissenting voices claimed that the project is an improper use of congressional funds.

"While I am all for paying homage to mankind's tragic legacy of imprudence, surely there are more appropriate ways to do so than this," Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) said. "Why can't we simply give the money back to the taxpayers so they can waste it all on bad investments, botched plastic surgery, and misguided real estate deals? Wouldn't that be a more suitable way of recognizing the complete inanity of our pathetic existence?"

At press time, Congress, and all of humanity itself, was trapped in a self-perpetuating loop of failure that is expected to continue until the inevitable extinction of the human species

This can also be expressed by the formula: stock days plus debtor days minus creditor days equals the cash-to-cash cycle.

So, for example, a company that keeps its stock for on average 30 days, gets paid by its debtors on average within 30 days and pays its creditors on average within 30 days will have a cash-to-cash cycle of 30 days.

Companies that receive cash from their customers at the point of sale and that have their inventory under good control will have a short cash-to-cash cycle. A company could even have either a negative cycle or a cycle time of zero. For example, if a business’ receivables and payables are held in check at 30 days while inventory runs at Just-In-Time (JIT) levels, then the cash cycle is zero – meaning that this company is in good shape with no working capital needs. And, of course, when receivable days are less than payables with JIT inventory, then the company will enjoy a positive cash-to-cash cycle – creating more cash on hand.

On the other hand, however, if a company puts payables down to 15 days and allows receivables to grow to 45 days, while inventory remains at steady levels, the cash cycle will be high. And. here, working capital will be constrained to compensate for inefficiencies.

Did you realize that working capital is the investment you are making in the inefficiencies of your processes and procedures plus your investment in your suppliers’ and your customers’ inefficiencies too? In other words, if you do not monitor inventory, accounts receivable, sales and marketing and accounts payable to ensure a healthy cash-to-cash cycle, then your working capital needs will not maintain a strong cash flow. The process will be out of control, and will not be optimized to create the greatest amount of effectiveness for the company.

So now you can see the relationship between your cash flow, your working capital and your cash to cash cycle. In order to increase your cash flow, you need to increase the velocity of your cash to cash cycle by reducing the inefficiencies found in your processes, your suppliers’ processes and your customers’ processes. People who are a fan of diet pills will have heard of the recently discovered effects of Hoodia gordonii. Hoodia gordonii is an herb found to reduce appetite resulting to weight loss. Exotic Loan Programs Always Fail

Over the last 60 years since World War II ended, a number of experimental loan programs have been attempted. These include interest-only loans, adjustable rate loans, and negative amortization loans among others. It is this group of loans that has consistently failed in the past for one simple reason: if payments can adjust higher, people will default. High default rates doom mortgage programs because these high default rates will eventually cause large default losses for the holders of these loans. Thank You Pages - The Missing Element

Thank You pages are a very underutilized resource in internet marketing. If you are not using them correctly, it could be costing you money.

When you get to a thank you page on the internet, one of two things just happened. Either you just bought something or you signed up to be on someone’s email list.

In either case, you were successfully guided through the decision process and you trusted what you saw enough to buy or sign up.

What you may not realize is that once you get to the thank you page, you are now worth more than 500 random visitors to the owner of the site. Because the owner knows that if he can sell you on one thing it is much more likely that he can sell you on at least one more related thing.

I would much rather talk to 100 people who just bought something from me than 50,000 people who may or may not be interested in what I have to sell. Those 100 people are already in buying mode and already trust me. Put those two things together and you get a powerful combination.

So getting control of the thank you page and using it effectively becomes very important.

If you are involved in network marketing and you just promote the web page you were given, it is the company that generally controls the thank you page. They get the benefit not you.

If you own your own site (it’s not that complicated or expensive to do), then you have a way of controlling the thank you page,

Most of the thank you pages I’ve seen are either boring or hideous. Boring is just saying thank you. Hideous is loading the page with a whole boatload of banners that take a long time to load and mostly don’t look well together.

Here’s a better way.

Generally one or two short paragraphs is enough for the thank you. For the rest of the page you want a product or a service that is somehow related to what your customer just bought or signed up for. The closer the match, the more likely your customer will cooperate with what you are trying to do.

The bulk of your thank you page should be a complete sales letter/sales pitch that you would see on a regular web site. If that is what it takes to sell your product if you were marketing it by itself then that is what it is going to take to market it to your customers.

Except that now, you have people who are in buying mode and who trust you. Big difference. Much less sales resistance.

So to recap, you need two things to make thank you pages work for you.

First, you need your own website. Godaddy.com is a reliable service I use for my websites. For $50 a year you pay for your domain registration fees and get a year of web hosting. For another $50 - $100 you can get some college computer geek to create your web pages and load it up to your site.

So for less than $200 and about a week of work (mostly by someone else) you can have your own web site promoting your product. There are many other reasons to have your own site that I won’t go into here. But for now controlling your own thank you page is a big plus.

Second, you need two opportunities to promote. Obviously if you just have one opportunity then using the thank you page in way I just described is not going to be very helpful. The internet has literally thousands of different of business opportunities to choose from. Just pick two that you are interested in and you are off and running.

You should have the product that is either easier to sell or cheaper as the main product you promote. So when people come to your website, they see that first. The reason for this is that people aren’t going to see your thank you page if they have sales resistance to your first product.

Remember that once you make the sale and the customer is in buying mode and trusts you, making the more complicated sale will be much easier than trying to do it the other way around.

If you see that every sentence starts with the word ‘the’ then you need to make a change. Being overly descriptive with your writing is not necessarily a good thing. If you were writing a novel, sure, there might be room for more flowery turns of phrase.
